Quote of the Week 10/19/2009

Monday, October 19th, 2009

I think it is manmade. I think it’s clearly manmade. If you don’t understand what the cause is, it’s virtually impossible to come up with a solution. We know what the cause is. The cause is manmade. That’s the cause. That’s why the polar icecap is melting. Joe Biden

Recycled and Beyond

Monday, October 19th, 2009

OK   –   I know you’ve been wondering too…… Where does all my recycling end up.  Well, here’s the low down, on what happens to your recyclables in their afterlife.  All that stuff you carry to the curb, the stuff you load in your car and drive to the town recycling center. Maybe you lie awake in your bed wondering about…OK maybe not.  But now that I have compiled all this information for you, I bet you’ll read it.

plastic-recycling-symbols-1In our first category:  we have those big and bouncy 2 liter soda bottles, even your mouthwash and water bottles,  salad dressing, vegetable oils and peanut butter jars.   These items can be the polar fleece you are wearing.   Carpet, paneling, furniture and the ever popular non woven tote bags in every grocery store across the US.

plastic-recycling-symbols-2Second we have the following bottles; detergent and bleach bottles, shampoo, juice and household cleaner bottles, milk jugs, butter and yogurt tubs and cereal box liners.  And they are transformed right back into detergent bottles, along with pens, recycling containers, your floor tiles, benches, picnic tables, fencing and dog houses.

plastic-recycling-symbols-3Category # 3 has more shampoo and detergent bottles, window cleaner and cooking oil bottles, add to that, some siding, windows, and piping.  We use these for mud flaps and speed bumps, decks, flooring and paneling.

plastic-recycling-symbols-4Using the #4 symbol we have Dry cleaning and shopping bags, clothing, furniture, carpet and those already made of recycled 2 liter bottles,  non-woven totes bags.  Of course, we make more floor tiles and paneling, then there are lumber and landscaping ties, trash can liners and shipping envelopes.

plastic-recycling-symbols-5Did you know your ketchup and syrup bottles, medicine bottles and yogurt containers and even straws.  Can be the broom or brush you used this morning, signal lights, battery cables, ice scrapers, rakes and bicycle racks.

plastic-recycling-symbols-6Coming in at # 6 is aspirin bottles, CD cases, egg cartons, disposable plates and cups. From these items we make insulation and vents, foam packing, light switch plates, rulers and more egg cartons.

 plastic-recycling-symbols-7

The # 7 symbol is for three- and five-gallon water containers, sunglasses, DVDs, iPod and computer cases, signs and displays,  are recycled into plastic lumber and custom made products.
