Great Eco Friendly Costume Idea

Friday, October 30th, 2009

I was watching The Rachel Ray Show this morning and saw a great idea for a Halloween Costume made out of Plastic Trash Bags….Thought you might enjoy this:

What a great way to make a recyclable Halloween costume

Witch Costume Supplies:

Hat: Hat, 2 shower scrunchies, hot glue, spiderDirections:

Cut the tie in the middle of a shower scrunchy to open it and make one long strip then cut that open to make it wider. Hot glue to the outside brim of the hat leaving it open in the front. Glue more shower scrunchy to the inside brim and add a spider on top. The dress is two pieces: a top and skirt. To make  the skirt, cut off any drawstrings if your trash bag has them. Gather a trash bag together about 5 inches wide and tape. Repeat this process taping each trash bag on to the next, overlapping slightly until you have enough length to go around your waist. You can tape the inside together to keep the skirt from blowing open. Cut the bottom in a zig zag if desired and open up the bags to poof out the skirt. Glue on Velcro to close in back or just tape it. To make the top, gather a garbage bag 2 1/2 inches in the middle and tape it (this is the top of the shoulders). Cover the tape with a strip of garbage bag taped underneath. Drape the trash bag over your shoulder to make sure it will be 3 inches or longer on the bottom after it is belted and cut the ends in a zig zag. You may have to tape together two trash to lengthen the bags if you are tall. Repeat this process for the other side. To wear the top put on both sides and add the belt adjusting as necessary. You can tape up the sides (on the inside) to prevent them from opening as well. For the belt, cut out a strip of poster board long enough to go around your waist, glue pieces together with a glue stick to lengthen if necessary. Cut out a belt that is wider in the front and narrower in the back, then round off the corners in the front. Cut a gift bag open (save the ribbon handles) and glue on to the poster board with a glue stick, you can use scraps to reinforce the back side if desired (save the handle). Use a hole puncher to make 3 holes on each side. Lace with the ribbon from the gift bag handle. Tie it together so it will be long enough. To make the sleeves, scrunchies are worn over trouser socks. Cut the bottom of the socks open. Cut a strip of shower scrunchy as long as the sock and cut strips of fringe on the edges. For the broom use a twist tie to attach flowers upside down, then hot glue on a shower scrunchy scrap and finish with a trash bag strip tied in to a bow.

Using Tape in Advertising

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Tape isn’t just for closing cartons anymore.  It can be used for so many different things.  One of the most original ways I have seen it used is in advertising.

youwreckeryouwrecker2

The identity for the independent Punk band ‘Gallucci’ is designed on a roll of adhesive tape. The tape can be applied by the band themselves on anything from records, gig-posters and T-shirts, to microphones or any other instrument needed to be fixed. The title of the record, ‘You Wrecker’ communicates well to it’s audience since you have to ‘wreck’ the tape in order to open up the CD-Case, viewer then being the wrecker. The logotype symbolizes the band’s Italian heritage, greatly inspired by Italian vintage signs and typography.
