5 Green-Themed Books Kids Will Love

We all spend so much time thinking about ways we can more eco-friendly in business…sometimes we have to just sit back and take a breath, and maybe read to our kids….or if they are old enough let them learn about our “new green world” on their own…Here are some suggestions:

“The Giving Tree,” by Shel Silverstein

To be fair, Silverstein’s best-selling kids’ parable has been interpreted many different ways. But read it with the Earth on your mind and see if it doesn’t sound like a warning to not be greedy with Mother Nature’s resources. Read the book review on Family.com.

“Judy Moody Saves the World,” by Megan McDonale

Kids will love Judy’s impulsive style and her get-up-and-go. Here’s a character who doesn’t just think about saving the world, she actually tries to make it happen. Kids will enjoy Miss Moody’s accessible tips for taking green action.

“The Lorax,” by Dr. Seuss

With Seuss’ trademark — kid-friendly rhymes — this book doesn’t lose its entertainment value just because it packs a powerful wallop of a message. The Lorax is a quirky character kids will love: Even if he does like to give guilt trips to polluters, he does it in rhyme.

“Gone Wild: An Endangered Animal” by David McLimans

Talk about learning. In this Caldecott Medal-winning book, each of the 26 letters is illustrated with features and parts of endangered animals starting with the same letter. Each species gets a full biography at the back of the book, giving kids a chance to learn more about some of the more unfamiliar species.

“Flush,” by Carl Hiassen

This book’s toilet-inspired title will draw kids in and Hiassen’s trademark humor will keep them hooked. Kids will love the crazy misbehavior of the book’s characters, who will do anything — lie, vandalize, and steal — to stop a crooked casino owner from dumping sewage into the ocean. Sure, the antics aren’t ones parents want kids to emulate but they make the book a fun ride.
